Virtual safety controller now with FSoE certification
Kempten, March 2026: CODESYS Virtual Safe Control SL is the first virtual safety controller worldwide to be certified according to IEC 61508 SIL3 for use with FSoE (EtherCAT Safety).
At the beginning of 2025, the CODESYS Group, as the market-leading IEC 61131-3 provider, received the first certification for the CODESYS Virtual Safe Control SL virtual safety controller from TÜV Süd. This version included the use of Profinet/PROFISAFE I/Os. The certification has now been extended to FSoE (EtherCAT Safety). This means that in safety-critical applications, there is now greater freedom of choice for the safe fieldbus and the safety I/Os used. This means that all devices with an x86 CPU (64-bit) and the corresponding substructure consisting of a Linux operating system and container engine can now be used as safety controllers for which SIL3 according to IEC 61508 is required. Special dual-channel safety hardware is no longer required for the acceptance of the safety system with EtherCAT safety I/Os.
CODESYS Virtual Safe Control SL is available in the CODESYS Store. Licensing is based on the required safety I/O channels.
